Teaching Experience


Teaching music (theory and performance) to young people aged 10-16, I found my love for educating. It was such a privilege to be able to share what I have learnt over the course of my education in music to help students make the most out of theirs! I was excited, then, to have the opportunity to teach English language at primary school level, first in Ecuador, then in Cambodia and Malaysia. 

Combining my passion for travel with my love of teaching, I was also able to indulge in my own education learning languages, which eventually led to my admission to the University of Cambridge to study Modern and Medieval Languages and Literatures. Now, alongside my studies, I teach French and Spanish at GCSE and A Level standard and am excited to be able to offer my mentorship to prospective Oxbridge applicants.

Welsh in origin, I grew up in a small, isolated village in the East Midlands of England. From a young age, I felt drawn to a variety of places all over the world, seeking new experiences and adventures always. As soon as I became able to work and save up money, I developed my passion for travel. With that came a want for connection and a need to communicate, which forced me to study at least the basics of the languages of the countries I was visiting, learning and developing more fluency along the way as I began to interact more confidently with others. Spanish was my favourite of all – specifically, the Hispanic languages of Latin America. I soon fell in love with Latin American literature and look forward to specialising in the subject further along in my higher educational studies; I’d particularly love to learn more regarding the indigenous languages of the continent.

Aside from literature and language, music has always been a huge part of my life, having played the violoncello for over 15 years now and participating in various orchestras and ensembles to this day. Music, speaking retrospectively, formed the basis of my understanding of language and expression. The way in which written music is performed and interpreted differently at each performance by each different artist respectively, captured the essence of linguistic translation that I would come to apply in my studies as an adult.

I really value the interconnections between all of the arts and seek to incorporate them into my own education as well as that which I provide to others. A cross-curricular understanding of expression and representation, I believe, deepens a student’s engagement with a particular subject; for this reason, in my teaching, I tailor my lessons to my students’ individual interests which are always unique to them and give their academic writing authenticity and flair – qualities that are imperative to standing out in the application processes for universities such as Cambridge and Oxford. 

Hobbies of mine include singing, dancing, creative writing and marvelling at nature as I walk my three dogs and travel whenever I get the chance. I pride myself in keeping a high energy and lust for life, hoping to transmit my enthusiasm to all the students I have the privilege to mentor!
