academic-development

Course Overview

Few people are aware that we are living in a time with surprising parallels to that of the earliest Buddhists; a time of unprecedented developments with many individuals struggling to find their identity and spirituality in the new world context. In recent years, it has become increasingly popular to look towards the east for alternative inspirations of how to deal with life today, and consequently, many Europeans and Americans have found themselves looking to Buddhism. However, the teaching that many of these people receive about Buddhism often takes a Westernised approach towards its subject. This course seeks to strip back the 'western' veneer applied to Buddhism as of late and lay down the very foundations of early Buddhism with particular reference to the Three Jewels (The Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha).
