So, You Want to Talk about God?: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion

academic-development

Course Overview

The word 'philosophy' comes from the Greek root 'philos-', meaning 'love' and '-sophos', meaning 'wisdom'. This course seeks to combine each of these elements, encouraging participants in their study of philosophy and religion to hone their understanding of the fundamental subjects explored in the exam syllabus, before going further and engaging with these issues out of a genuine academic desire. It will draw on core GCSE and A-Level philosophy and religious studies topics, such as the existence of God and the problem of evil and suffering, focusing on all key figures and arguments noted by the exam boards, before moving on to discuss more abstractly the questions which have puzzled human minds for centuries. Who is God? Does He/She exist? Why is there Evil? These and other questions will be explored, debated, and elaborated on in-depth.
