Course Overview

Through this course, students become capable of understanding and analysing more complex audio input, expressing themselves orally based on arguments, all with a higher level of grammatical correctness and automatism. This course is focused on practise of active and correct use of more complex grammatical structures and in speaking and comprehension practice (written and oral), as well as active use of more complex vocabulary. Students are offered a wide range of contemporary topics which they will familiarize themselves with through audio or video material. Students practise their listening skills through various comprehension check exercises including listening for gist, listening for specific information, listening in detail, inferential listening and listening for functional language. The listening material, as well as the additional written material will create the basis for forming students’ own opinions of the topics. Students are provided with handouts with glossaries and useful language structures for each topic to ease their way into expressing their ideas confidently. Special attention is dedicated to the students’ oral delivery and the ways in which it can be improved through pronunciation correction, vocabulary building and the use of complex sentences. The list of topics is not fixed and can be modified to suit the needs of the students.
