Having taught for the past three years, I have successfully ensured all pupils in my class have made significant progress from September to July. I have thorough subject knowledge of the primary curriculum, and as leader of upper key stage two, I am confident in my knowledge of requirements for both expected and greater depth standard. Furthermore, having led both literacy and history in my primary school, I am confident in the curriculum and objectives for each year group, having supported other teachers in their development previously.
Having taught students whose parents had requested my 1-1 support, the joy and privilege in private teaching comes from having the 1-1 focus on the child, being able to teach, support and tailor learning to best suit their needs. As a result, my approach to private teaching will always be flexible, however, with every intention to keep it highly engaging and utilising real-life contexts as much as possible in order to support the knowledge being gained. My goal with every student is to ensure a passion and love for learning.
My degree in psychology has ensured I understand the science of learning and how to best teach children to ensure the knowledge is recalled moving forwards. Therefore, where possible, the teaching will be sequenced, such that previous knowledge is rehearsed and recalled before being built upon. Having completed psychology through to undergraduate degree, I am happy and confident to support any GCSE or A-level pupils in their psychology qualifications, whether it be content or exam skill.
Having had a real passion for learning myself, it is a joy to now teach children young enough to foster a passion and excitement in them. During my degree, I continued my work with children leading after school clubs and 'beyond curriculum' history for Year 5 pupils. In 2018, I was a programme leader across the summer holidays, managing 80 teenagers through a four-week residential programme to develop their resilience and life skill-building ahead of university.
Having completed the Teach First route into teaching, I relocated to a coastal town and have remained here for three years, enjoying the coastal lifestyle! In addition to teaching full time, I am completing my master's in educational leadership, researching ways virtual experiences can support teaching in primary schools.
As for my spare time: I love reading, and I do it whenever I can! I also have a 5-month-old sausage dog (called Nala), who keeps me very busy! She has even been into school a couple of times!
