Creative Narrative Writing: the Writing Rainbow

academic-development

Course Overview

This course will teach students how they can make their writing great by analysing the best authors' work. Students will identify the grammar and key techniques of writing and use this as inspiration for writing their own phenomenal sentences, which will lay foundation to an incredible piece of narrative writing. Lessons will explore a range of stimuli, from beautiful images to short film clips, which will inspire a student's creative mind. During lessons, students will spend time collecting key vocabulary, analysing types of sentence structures and outline how the power of writing can do more than a movie or an image; it can take a reader on a journey where they create the images themselves. As an example, this course will teach students how to ensure their setting description mimics the mood and emotions of the main character (pathetic fallacy), alluding to the reader what could happen next. Students will leave this sequence of lessons having planned and written their own narrative. Furthermore, they will have the skills to do this again, about any subject they wish. All sessions are planned with the upper Key Stage Two curriculum requirements in mind, with a secure knowledge of what is required to be a writer of far greater skill.
