Understanding long division and performing it accurately is an important component of the Year 6 SATs exams and this course gives students the confidence to use the long division method both in their work and in the exam.
Worth a significant amount of marks in the Year 6 SATs exams, long division continues to pose a barrier for upper Key Stage Two students. In these sessions, students will revise division and identify how they can use what they know to assist them in what they find the most mathematically challenging. A fluent method of finding multiples of larger numbers (that will be taught in the early sessions), will be used to make division be seen as a method of subtraction. As a result of this, division will become a far less daunting topic and students will become capable of applying it with confidence in a range of mathematical settings. A strong emphasis is placed on making students of this programme strong mathematicians for the long term.
