There are so many things that I have loved about being a geography teacher. Studying geography at school gives us such an awareness of different places around the world. It helps us make sense of current and historical events, especially those with economic, social, environmental and political importance. I love the fact that I could see a story on the news and the next day teach about it in my lesson. It is such a relevant and ever-changing subject and I hope one that can inspire. I have really loved seeing students become more globally minded and become keen to develop their critical thinking skills. It’s so exciting teaching children who are passionate about change and want to use their voices to make a positive difference in the world.
Even though I grew up in London, I have been living in New York for the past three years. There are also so many nice restaurants in the city and I have really enjoyed trying them all. I also love to travel and America is the perfect place for that. You can go on amazing road trips, see the national parks and visit huge metropolises. My favourite places I have been are Hawaii, Austin and New Orleans. I am also visiting Alaska and Yellowstone this summer, which is a Geography teachers dream!
I have been a geography teacher for 7 Years. I first started my teaching career in Northwest London, where I became the head of geography.
