'Bonjour Tristesse' By Françoise Sagan: How A Teenage Girl Thinks Of Herself As Doomed To Be Unhappy And Embraces It
A classic French novel, 'Bonjour Tristesse, will be explored and analysed in-depth during this course. Students will learn the beauty of Sagan's writing and its many elements.
'Bonjour Tristesse': loss, grief, rebellion, rejection, jealousy and hate. Negative emotions run deep in Cécile despite a seemingly peaceful, luxurious and happy holiday setting. The course provides students with valuable insights and skills through an in-depth analysis of the key issues the novel explores, whilst sharpening their literary skills by becoming familiar with the complex universe of Françoise Sagan, where the characters and psychology speak as much as their actions, and lack thereof. Each lesson acts as an opportunity for critical analysis of an aspect of the novel, as well as essay-writing practice, which are both transferable skills.
