Teaching is my calling. I am proud of our profession and passionate about making a difference in the life of individuals, empowering them with language skills, building their confidence and motivation for life-long learning, as well as enhancing their appreciation of their cultural identity via the many cultural aspects of language learning covers.
As a polyglot, my mother tongue is French. My love for languages led me to learn German and English for my A-levels. As I started my teaching career, I learnt Italian and Spanish. More recently, I have also learnt Portuguese, the language of my parents in law. I love learning as much as I love teaching. It helps me keep a greater sense of empathy towards my learners and enhances a core aspect of my teaching, which was the focus of my MEd: motivation. Motivating, coaching, and confidence-building are crucial to successful language learning and rewarding language production.
I started teaching when I was 18, delivering EFL classes in primary schools around Paris. Academic and cheerful, I find that making learning fun and easy via well-structured and student-centric learning activities is the most rewarding way to teach or train, whatever the age of the learner.
Years of classroom teaching at both primary and secondary levels enabled me to cover all the key aspects of classroom teaching, from designing schemes of work, opportunities for assessment to cross-curricular learning projects and school trips abroad. As part of my head of Spanish role, I also got to be in charge of teacher recruitment, induction, training, mentoring and performance management.
Curious about neuro-science and language learning for adults, I decided to diversify beyond teaching in classroom settings. Several years of corporate French teaching helped me hone my coaching skills as well as developing teaching skills specific to adult learners, such as identify set error patterns and help learners shift to a more accurate and natural language production.
A keen public speaker, I worked as a trainer for teachers of FLE from all over Europe. Based in Lille, I was responsible for designing and delivering workshops. Finally, in order to keep expanding my teaching skills, I have started to work as an examiner for CIE, the IB and Pearson's.
Of all the teaching experiences my career includes, educating is by far the most rewarding. With over ten years of experience in one-to-one educating, I find helping learners rebuild their confidence and love for the subject extremely important. Similarly, helping them fulfil their potential and exceed their target grades is a humbling part of our role. Building a long-term relationship of trust through support and individually-tailored learning plans has put me in the privileged position of becoming the 'go-to person for all-things French' amongst a number of my students.
