Course Overview



This course is an opportunity to explore a wide variety of art forms and to discover more about the cultural, social and historical background of the Italian Renaissance, which continues to influence and inspire us today. The programme will explore some of the most famous names in Italian art, from Michelangelo to Botticelli, as well as introduce students to some lesser-known artists and architects from the period. It will include a range of works and themes from the various A-Level examination boards to help students consolidate their knowledge and revise key information. In each class, students will listen to a lecture-style overview of the week's topic or works, as well as take part in a group discussion of the themes raised and analysis of artworks. By the end of the course, students will have been exposed to the variety of different artistic styles prevalent in Italy during the Renaissance, as well as leading artists, figures and sources of information from this period, and the social, political and historical factors that made this period so unique!
